OPEN HOUSE FAQ

Curious about joining Season 1? Join us on Friday, January 30th at Mark Morris for our Open House!

Who is the Ballet Salon for?

We are designing the Ballet Salon for passionate (non-professional level) dancers who are returning to ballet later in life in search of artistic expression, a joyful community, and the happiness and inspiration that comes from shared movement. If you grew up training seriously in ballet (if you have about 8+ years of ballet training) and if you have performance experience, and and if you’re craving a joyful second act, this is for you! Our company classes will range from advanced beginner level to intermediate, and our choreographers will work closely with our company teacher to create beautiful works that are an appropriate level for our dancers.

I haven’t danced in years, can I still join?

Yes! If not now, when!? Our program will officially begin in March 2026 and it will run about 7.5 months, anchored by weekly company classes. March- April will be dedicated entirely to class and collectively getting our muscles and minds back in shape. We will not start working with choreographers until May and our show will be in October 2026.

But my body is different than it used to be, is that ok?

Absolutely. Come as you are. The Ballet Salon was born from many conversations we’ve had together about exploring what it means to be a dancer and a performing artist as your body changes and ages. Wherever your starting point is, our company teacher, as well as our choreographers, are excited to work with you to be the best dancer you can be, today, in this version of you. At the Ballet Salon, we believe all bodies are beautiful and we are making space to celebrate that.

What should I wear to this class?

Whatever makes you feel most comfortable and confident! We personally favor a more non-traditional vibe in our ballet outfits, but if a bun and pink tights are your jam, we absolutely love that for you. If you haven’t danced in a while and don’t have ballet shoes, you can wear socks for this class.

Do I need to bring pointe shoes?

DEFINITELY NOT!!!!! (We ourselves have thanked our pointe shoes for their service and retired them. There will likely be no pointe in our repertoire next year unless someone really wants to do it. But it will not be us…)

How much does this cost?

The January 30th Open House class is $15. Just RSVP through the link and fill out the google form. If you decide to commit to Season 1, there will be a monthly subscription fee that covers the cost of our weekly class and the monthly artist salon.
